Lobster Dinner

By tofufa

On a Wednesday night my mum decided to cook a lobster dinner, it was fantastic! I was so looking forward to this dinner since i haven’t had lobster for such a long time. I remember the last time i had lobster, which was a few months ago, it was not very meaty at all. For me, i feel that lobster taste nicests when they are meaty and sweet. Lobsters just aren’t right when it has limpy and far from sweet meat, even if it is covered in all that sauce it just doesn’t feel right! It’s like eating a crab shell without all that delicious orange stuff……which i think its the egg. (google tells me so)

But back to my dinner, the lobster was, i felt, just right. It had the tender, sweet and juicy meat coupled with my mum way style of sauce and the crispy noodles. The way my mum makes her sauce is something thats similar to the lobster dish at Mayflower in Chinatown, London. But mummy just makes it that tad nicer. You know, everything seems to taste nicer when you have it once in a while. Appreciation.

This morning for breakfast my mum made ‘ha gau’ (cystral prawn dumplings). Well to be to precise she didn’t make the dumplings, she only steamed them. And i just wanted to show you a picture because it looked pretty. Also can i mention that the dumplings are from the Royal China Group, i personally think they do the best dumplings you can steam at home.

Oh i’m so upset you can’t see the layout, but basically it was all in three lines on lotus leaf representing the shape of a boat.

    I was wondering why you uploaded the one lobster photo earlier :P but making this like a true food blog;
    I’m just wondering, what type of sauce was it for the lobster? I tend to like my lobster with sauce that doesn’t overpower the sweetness of the lobster, which I think, is what you prefer too? Which is why I prefer Ginger-Spring Onion style over Cheese.

    Also, where do you get the dimsum? I might look out next time we head to Loon Fung/ Wing Yip?

    Haha, i couldn’t work out how to do close up shots on my camera until yesterday night. =P even though i’ve had my camera for 2 years. giggles
    And yes its that sauce, although i do like the cheese sometimes, but i agree with you it overpowers the lobster.
    You can get it in any chinese supermarket, Hoo Hing, Loon Fung, Wing Yip. Although, i think theres another brand ‘duon wong sim sum’ which is very good and cheapest option is to go Loon Fung. My phoentic is bad, so let me write the advert to you, ‘duon wong dim sum, lup lup ting sum.’ that one. =)

    I miss home-cooked lobster. Both my mum and dad are really good at this, though my dad’s better at sending the lobster to heaven…I really dislike lobster with any strong sauces. Ginger and spring onion is perfect for lobster!

    I don’t think I’ve ever bought har gau to steam at home, because I always think they will be too gloopy. I’ll look out for them next time I go food shopping!
