I am sitting here delicately scoffing these mini delights my beloved friend, S, brought back from Paris. So far, I have devoured one that is Pistachio flavoured. Another that is peach flavoured (did I taste some dried raisin and peach in the filling?) and one Lemon flavoured. What is it about these little tastes of heaven that make them so expensive yet so delightful?
If you’re like me, the first bite is the orgasm worthy moment. The outer ’skin’ crumbles away with a pop but inside it’s still moist and you take the first bite into your mouth. But did you know, making macarons are one bitch of a cooking session? A month of two ago, I tried and failed. Twice. First time, I forgot to half the amount of egg white in the recipe, my fault. Second time, the macarons were too chewy and didn’t have the soft moist consistency that makes them so gorgeous. And if you add the: whisk until you get a ribbon effect mixture, dropping pans of your piped macarons onto the floor to burst all the bubbles, waiting for the skin to dry before putting into oven, piping filling into the macarons – it almost makes you want to send your failed macarons halfway across the globe because you can’t bear the thought of almonds and skins anymore!
Anyway, the morale of today is : macarons are delightful and you should buy me lots. Especially if they’re Parisien

I bought some in Austria, they were really nice, but I forgot about them, left them in a jaffa cake tube (so they don’t get crushed), when I found them again, they were mouldy……….T__________T!!!!!!!!! They were €1.50 each! haiii
You need to get to Pierre Herme in Paris or Laduree in London/Paris!
Jess: Macarons are expensive for all the reasons I mentioned above! If you knew the effort and time that went into each one…
Su Lin: I haven’t had the ones from Pierre Herme. I guess that’s a must for my next Paris trip, whenever that may be! Laduree, standard. Have you tried the ones from PAUL or Yauatcha? I personally quite like the Yauatcha, the flavours they have there are quite atypical. Awesome stuff!
I very much like Laduree’s. Didn’t like Yauatcha’s – too sweet and the flavours were muddled. Didn’t like Paul’s.
If you like atypical flavours, you’ll LOVE Pierre Herme – the flavours are fabulous and taste like what they’re supposed to be!
