Summer 2011 : Last of Palermo : Day 7

12 Aug

Costa 12/07/11

Today was our last day in Palermo and I’m pretty sad to be leaving this city. Despite its crazy road crossings and dirty roads, it is a lively city with lots to see and lots to eat!

We spent today going to Palermo markets and visiting out favourite dinner place (Da Salvo). Unfortunately I didn’t get round to trying spleen sandwich or chickpea fritta because everytime I saw them it was either after dinner or just before dinner! Oh and we had a lovely lunch but it was ruined when the restaurant totally conned us!

Breakfast 12/07/11

Armed with our breakfast snacks, we walked towards Capo market to capture and feel the local experience there. There were spices, fresh vegetables, fresh fruit, snacks, fish, meat and everything you’ll need to run a household! It was absolutely fabulous here. The one thing I found very amusing here was the mini watermelons, very cute!

Initially we wanted to try Cucina, but it was closed and we were disappointed like the other Italien couple who walked away disappointed too. Instead we headed to our other choice called Trattoria Tipica Altri Tempi. The food prices aren’t expensive here, but we felt they treated us like dumb tourist and tried to con every euro they could! Absolutely horrendous I’ll say.

Once we sat down they place wine, water and bread on our table….this is not free and there is a charge for these items which is understandable. After our mains, they then placed fruits and desserts on our table, we notified the waiter telling him that we didn’t order this….he responded that like the wine and water, it’s part of the price! The cheek of him! We declined this offer and just asked for the bill and menu  to double check everything……it turns out that there is an extra charge for the fruit and desserts. It is not included in the price.

I suppose the shock was when they charged us two bottles of water, when they had specifically said it was free refills. Again, we told them and they completely ignored us and said that’s how they charge it, by bottles, even though on the menu is said “wine and water free refills”. We were determine to put this right, it wasn’t the price problem it was the fact that they tried to con us!

Lunch experience was crap. Even worse than the dinner that I had a raw main, at least service was lovely there!

Costa 12/07/11

We continued to walk around and headed to Patisserie Costa to eat Sicilian Cassata, pistacho choux pastry thing and a crema chocolate mini strawberry thing. All was good. Italiens are awesome on their sweet stuff, or shall I say Sicilians are.

For dinner we headed to our favourite restaurant, Piccolo Napoli is our fav too but only opened for lunch, Da Salvo. Here we splashed out on seafood. Good, fresh and simple cooked seafood. And by splashing out we ordered, clam spaghetti, boiled octopus, fish, prawns and swordfish…..all that came to a agreeable price of 35 euros.

Dinner, as expected, was awesome at Da Salvo and we prepared to leave it for Ragusa tomorrow.
